Barbara Frye - 1990 1990 Barbara Frye
Frye was 19 years old, just out of the University of Georgia and working in UPIÌs Atlanta bureau when she was selected, in 1944, to run UPI's Florida Bureau.

She filled that position in Tallahassee for 38 years, covering 11 governors from Spessard Holland to Bob Graham and every session of the Legislature during that time. During that period she earned an outstanding reputation as a tough, fair, knowledgeable and dedicated reporter.

"She had a keen sense of right and wrong and steadfastly sought the right," said former Governor LeRoy Collins. "I am confident that Barbara helped make me a better, more effective governor than I would have been without her."
