Associate Editor
Lake City Reporter is seeking an experienced Associate Editor to take the No. 2 role in our busy, nationally award-winning newsroom.
The position involves the opportunity to report, as well as to assist and direct the copy desk as needed. This isn't a job for a new grad. We require at least two years experience reporting and designing — in other words, it's an excellent opportunity for an editor to step up from a weekly or an enlightened reporter to make a move from a daily writing beat. Early- or mid-level management experience in a newsroom is a plus.
The Lake City Reporter is a six-day daily in a city known as the Gateway to Florida. We just picked up a handful of national writing and photography awards, and we need someone to help us continue the trend.
If you can get the story no one else can get — and direct a young staff of reporters to do the same — design pages readers can't resist and relish the role of being the last line of defense on the copy desk, this is the position for you.
The Lake City Reporter serves Columbia and surrounding counties in North Florida through its daily paper, bimonthly magazine and growing website. Positioned at a major intersection into Florida, our community is better off than much of the nation and is experiencing solid growth.
Newspaper platform is Mac-based and pages are built in InDesign.
Send resume, three writing and three design samples to Editor Tom Mayer at tmayer@lakecityreporter.com. No phone calls.

Reporter
The Sun Sentinel and the Orlando Sentinel are looking for an aggressive and enterprising reporter to work in our Tallahassee Bureau.
The successful applicant will be able to sift through a range of issues and target topics that are of high relevance to the South Florida community. He or she will be expected to approach the job with a strong watchdog and consumer focus. This job is not about chronicling the machinations of state government and politics -- it is about finding and delivering Florida stories that have impact and resonate with readers beyond the capitol.
This is a high-profile job for a reporter who can consistently break news online, deliver engaging blog posts, build audience through social media, and shoot pictures and video as needed to support that coverage. He or she should be equally comfortable turning front page narratives and should be open to delivering those stories in alternative formats. Database experience is preferred.
Strong teamwork and initiative are critical. This reporter will work closely with another reporter in our Tallahassee bureau. That reporter focuses on Central Florida issues, but together this team will collaborate to deliver engaging coverage on the biggest issues facing Florida. That coverage is supervised by our state editor, based in Orlando.
To apply, please submit a resume, letter of interest, five clips and examples of your online experience and aptitude to Kathy Pellegrino, Sun Sentinel, Recruitment Editor, kpellegrino@sun-sentinel.com.
