Position Sought
Help me get back into the news business so you can benefit from my skills, experience and mature understanding of what makes community coverage work. Economic conditions might have forced me into a three-year break from the industry, but now I am ready to get back to work with a renewed energy and aggressiveness.
I am an accomplished reporter, biographical features writer and analyst with a profession spanning 30 years – the last 18 of which I built a solid career as a contract correspondent with news outlets, corporations and law firms in the St. Louis region. Prior to my working independently I held staff positions with both daily and weekly newspapers and took on special assignments with news agencies.
My areas of expertise are highlighted in business, law and government. I am one to dig beyond printed agendas as well as follow up on leads that go further than official statements. I am results oriented and accustomed to working on a tight deadline. I'm old school enough to understand what constitutes real news and contemporary enough to expand my technological skills on the Internet. And I am never satisfied with cliché performances or material.
Some in the business might still be looking for stepping stones to the next position, but I am looking for a community and news outlet to call home. I would welcome an opportunity to talk with the right publisher and editor in detail about my professional story and what I have to offer. Interested parties may contact Mike at stlopa@comcast.net to receive a resume, work samples and references.

Editor
Veteran newspaper editor, who has worked at major dailies and small community papers, mostly in supervisory roles, wants to return to grassroots journalism in Florida. The size of the publication and salary are not as important as is the right fit. I am open to weeklies, campus papers, magazines, web sites and dailies. I am currently living in Northern Virginia and working at the "nation's newspaper," but am willing to relocate quickly upon receiving an offer. I worked in Florida in the mid 1980s and have hoped that I would return one day. My experience ranges from design/graphics to being a managing editor to photo editing at the AP in New York. I have written sports, news and editorials, and managed experienced and inexperienced staffs. I bring broad newsroom experience in all phases of journalism, and enjoy inspiring others to put out a competitive, tightly written, well-designed publication, whether in print, online or both.
